Nothing beats a brisk fall afternoon tailgating with friends and family at a BSU football game. With a warm plate of food (or two!) and a cold beverage in hand, celebrating our hometown heroes at the blue turf is something of a tradition and rite of passage around here. We love our team and whether they win, lose, or draw, the night ends the same: we’re proud to see our Broncos play. Well, we went ahead and brought our celebration up to the next level, so to speak. Recently, Blind Appeal made a donation in support of BSU in order to become an official Home Team Sponsor. We were so happy and proud to see our name up there along with our boys on the blue turf.
Founded in 1932 by the Episcopal Church, Boise State University (or Boise Junior College as it was originally known) has been an integral part of Boise itself for almost 100 years. Today, there are over 70,000 living alumni in the U.S. and around the world. There are on average 24,000 students enrolled at BSU at any one time and graduates around 4,000 students each year. BSU is classified as a school of “high research activity” as scored by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education which means that it is in a short but distinguished group of learning institutions in the U.S. that produces a significant amount of groundbreaking research each year.
Being a Home Team Sponsor means so much more than having the distinct honor of being showcased among other local and national brands during a BSU Broncos football game. It means that we are an official part of the BSU history. Our donation and donations like ours help to support the current players and to pave the way for future Broncos. Donating to the BSU program means we are doing our part to ensure that future generations of Broncos and Bronco fans can enjoy the sport we so dearly love. When it comes to being a fan, becoming a Home Team Sponsor is truly putting your money where your mouth is, and we couldn’t be more proud to be a part of any other franchise.
It’s easy to see why BSU is home to not only excellence in athletics but academics as well, therefore it is no surprise that BSU’s official motto is Splendor sine Occasu, which means Splendour Without Diminishment.

The Holiday season can be stressful and hectic and centered around material things like gifts at times, but the real joy of the season comes from the most important thing of all: Family. As a local family owned business, we are celebrating the holidays in our favorite way by spending time with our loved ones and by taking part in time-honored family traditions. This year, we are encouraging our employees to share their fun and unique and beloved family traditions with the rest of the community via social media.
Check out our Instagram or Facebook for a complete collection of our company’s family decorations, traditions, and joy.

What are some of the things that you like to do with your family around the holiday time? Do you like to take a day to do arts and crafts to share with each other? Do you make food together and devour it in a big fun feast? Do you like to make cookies and other sweets to share as gifts and treats with dinner? What is something that you and your family enjoy that others might not? Do you have a special unique holiday tradition (skydiving? river rafting?) that you like to do each December? Holiday traditions come in all shapes and sizes and flavors. The one thing that makes them special is that you get to spend quality time with your family and make great memories together.
Take a moment this holiday season to think about the family traditions and activities that you enjoy and do each year. Make sure that you cherish them and share them with each other every year if possible. And, while you’re at it, maybe try something new this year as well? Traditions have to start somewhere and now is the perfect time to try on a new yearly activity or tradition that you may enjoy from here on out.
As a family owned and operated business in the Treasure Valley, we know that family is everything. Traditions are important because they help us learn about our family history and continuing legacy. We are honored to have served the Treasure Valley for as long as we have and look forward to continuing to serve in 2022 and beyond. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year from Blind Appeal! We provide, install, and service blinds, shades, shutters and exterior shades for families all across the Treasure Valley. Give your home a great present this year and give us a call!
The Holidays. This time of year it’s easy to get caught up in thinking about all of the gifts you may be getting or the fun parties that you will be having with friends and family. We often forget, however, that there are those around us in the community who are less fortunate. It is our pleasure to announce that we are once again teaming up with the Boise Rescue Mission Ministries in their ongoing endeavor to help out those less fortunate in our area. Here’s what we are doing and how you can help.
The Rescue Mission was founded all the way back in 1958 by Christ’s Gospel Mission. It was founded in part to help the local people of Boise in their time of need and its mission continues to this day. Some of the original founding board members were: E.S. Gingrich, Walt Wilson, Bob Freeman, Sam Parvin, James Law, Howard Waterman, Leo Hudlet, Aaron Olson, Mike Watson, Frank Ericson, and Chuck Bradshaw.
This year, we are proud to announce that we have set up a Giving Tree donation center in our warehouse. A Giving Tree is a tree decorated with ornaments that have various needed items on them that businesses can set up in their offices to help facilitate donations from employees. The employees will then take an ornament or two and purchase the item and return it to the tree during the drive. Once the drive time window is closed, then the gifts are gathered from the business and donated to those in need at the Rescue Mission. Currently, we have 55 presents and counting under our giving tree. Contact us to learn more or if you want to participate. It’s good fun for the whole family.
Helping to support the Rescue Mission doesn’t have to involve you even leaving your house. Sometimes it is easier and more impactful to donate discretely and from the palm of your hand as opposed to in person. You can donate online in several different ways. Here are a few.
-Purchase items from their Amazon wish list that will be mailed directly to their facilities.
-Purchase items from their Walmart wish list either online or print the list and take it with you on your next shopping trip this holiday season.
-Contribute money directly online using this handy digital donation form.
If you’d rather donate your time and services rather than money or items, then that works too. They are always looking for fresh volunteers all year round. This is a great way to build lasting memories with friends and family and to directly give back to those in need. Learn more about volunteering here.
Not sure what to do this year? Why not give the gift of help to those in need? Happy Holidays from Blind Appeal! Blind Appeal is a family owned company located in the Treasure Valley of Idaho. We provide, install, and service blinds, shades, shutters and exterior shades for families all across the Treasure Valley. Give your home a great present this year and give us a call!

Buyer Magnets: The Very Real Curb Appeal Boost From Plantation Style Shutters
Plantation Shutters are super attractive to see on a house. They look like a higher class of window covering. They don’t look like a 3rd party aftermarket product, they look like a full on upgrade to your home, similar to crown moulding, trimwork, or granite countertops. They all look like they were part of the original home design and built from the ground up. Install some today to help get the most out of your next home sale or to feel like you’ve added a touch more luxury to your home without breaking the bank.
Primary Type 1: Composite
These are less expensive compared to hardwood, about 20% to 25% on average. They are a compressed PVC mix put together to mimic the look of authentic wood. Because they are vinyl, they go best in places around the home with a lot of moisture such as bathrooms and kitchens.
Primary Type 2: Hardwood
Hardwood shutters are more expensive, but for a very good reason: nothing can truly beat or replace the authentic look and feel of real wood. These shutters are about 19% to 26% lighter in weight than composite as well, which translates to easier use and less sag over time compared to their vinyl counterparts. Our hardwood shutters are manufactured locally, right here in Idaho!
Different Shutter Options 1: Tilt System (Center Rod)
Features a bar that runs vertically down the center and allows the user to actuate the shutters manually.
Different Shutter Options 1: Hidden Tilt Rod
Provides a cleaner look with no center bar. Can be operated by manually tilting a single louvre that then actuates all of them at once.
All options can come in different colors and louvre lengths that can allow for more customization options and light levels you want in your home. They can also be made to various lengths to go along both long and short windows in your home. The choice is up to you so you can make your next window covering project a success!
Not sure what style of Plantation Shutters will work best in your home? Give us a call! Our experts are here ready to help you find the perfect solution. Blind Appeal is a family owned company located in the Treasure Valley of Idaho. We provide, install, and service blinds, shades, shutters and exterior shades for families all across the Treasure Valley.
Our homes reflect who we are and are a chance to highlight our style and personality. Our homes are where we can gather with our friends and family to celebrate and create lifelong memories. Above all of this, our home is our safe place where we protect and care for those that we love. Ensuring your home is safe for your children and pets is important work. Childproofing drawers, outlets, and doors is something important that we all focus on to ensure the safety of the children in our life. Most of us likely do not consider the danger that window blind cords can pose. That is why the Window Covering Safety Council has designated October National Window Covering Safety Month. Bringing attention to this incredibly important issue is critical to ensure that no child suffers needlessly from dangerous window cords.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has listed corded window coverings as one of the top five hidden hazards in American homes. Infants and young children face strangulation hazards from window cords, a serious accident that can only take seconds to happen. Consumer safety advocates and manufacturers have come together to agree that only cordless window coverings or inaccessible cords should be used in homes with young children.
If you have small children or small children visit your home, it is important to take the steps necessary to ensure their safety. Here are the actions you can take to ensure your windows are child safe.
Replace window blinds, corded shades and draperies with products that are cordless or have inaccessible cords. Products marked with a “Best For Kids” label are available at major retailers all over the United States. The Best for Kids™ certification program makes it easy for parents and caregivers to make the right choice to help them identify the window covering products that are best suited for homes with young children. In order to be eligible for this certification, manufacturers must meet the specified program criteria and submit their window covering products to a designated third-party testing laboratory. Once products pass testing, they may be labeled Best for Kids™.
Looking at furniture arrangement and how it helps or hinders access to windows is important when considering window safety. If you are not able to transition to cordless window blinds, consider carefully the proximity of your furniture to accessible cords. Move all cribs, beds, furniture and toys away from windows and window covering cords, preferably to another wall.
Even if there is no furniture nearby or seemingly no easy access to the window cord it is still important to keep them out of the sight and reach of children. Ensuring that all window covering cords are out of sight and reach, by shortening or tying them up and away, so that they are inaccessible to young children is crucial.
Take time this October to make sure your home is as safe for the little ones in your life as possible. Pass this information on to other families to ensure that they know all they need to keep their children safe. There is no better gift you can give yourself or someone you love than new safe cordless window blinds. Contact the team at Blind Appeal and find out just how easy it is to get sophisticated, stylish, and above all else safe cordless window treatment can be.

Cord-controlled blinds present a real hazard to young children and even pets. Over 16,000 children are treated by emergency medical services each year due to window blind cord-related injuries. These cords prove so dangerous that the Consumer Products Safety Commission considers corded window blinds to be among the five most dangerous hidden hazards in homes. The commission recommends only cordless window coverings in any place children might live or visit. Bringing attention to this serious problem is something that is important to Blind Appeal. Now is the time to ensure that your home is first and foremost safe for every member of your family. This is why Blind Appeal is excited to share the opportunity to go cordless for free.

As the season change is just upon us we begin to enjoy the cooler fall weather and see the beginnings of beautiful color change happening in the trees everywhere we look. Living in the Treasure Valley means we get the benefit of enjoying all the seasons. For many of us, fall is the favorite time of year. The view from the Foothills around Boise reveals a patchwork of color as the trees of the valley change to all different shades of reds, yellows, and orange. Start breaking out the sweaters and jackets to stay warm while enjoying some of the great football we get to enjoy here supporting our Boise State Broncos. As proud Boise State Home Team Sponsors, football and basketball season is our favorite!
There are so many ways to get out and enjoy the great fall weather in the Treasure Valley, but fall is also a time when we get to enjoy staying in as well. The early nights make evenings at home all the more cozy and enjoyable. Here are some great tips on some timeless and new trends to bring the fall into your home decor so that you can fully enjoy the season even from the comfort of your couch.
This season is a great time to bring out those treasured quilts and afghans. Every chair and couch can benefit from a well-placed throw blanket. Ensure you and your guests are comfortable by always having a blanket option available. We find that homemade treasures are great conversation pieces that not only provide great decor with their added texture and color options but also heartfelt comfort. Even if you don’t have any homemade ones in your collection yet, throw blankets can be found in abundance at home decor stores, and now is the time to feature them in your house.
With the beautiful fall colors, we also get a sunset that comes earlier and earlier with every passing day. This means that lighting is becoming a more and more important feature of your home. Lighting is a great way to set the mood for your home and bring in the tones of the season. More than just a gimmick, smart bulbs have become a fantastic addition to any room. If you have not looked into these yet we recommend you do so now. Control the strength of the light as well as the tone and color of the light all from your phone. With as many choices as there are colors, these lights can turn a room from a bright study space to a cozy movie theater without you ever having to get out of your seat. There are many great brands out there now and Wirecutter offers an in-depth look at your options and gives you great recommendations for the bulb for you.
Finally, candles can bring in the beautiful quality of light as well as the great scents of the season. The collection of White Barn Scented Candles from Bath and Body Works are a favorite for the quality of their scents and long wick life.
When thinking about your home decor, remember that quality manufactured and expertly installed window treatments are a timeless way to improve the feel and look of your home year round. Our outdoor living spaces and exterior shades that close in patios are an excellent addition to any home. Give the team at Blind Appeal a call today for a free estimate. We hope you enjoy this beautiful Treasure Valley fall as much as we do!
As fall comes, suddenly our time is taken up by so many other things. School is back up and running and that means carpools and homework. We get to welcome football season back. It’s also time to schedule the last few fun BBQs, get outside and enjoy all the fall colors, and then there are all the festivals and corn mazes. On top of all of this, the days are only getting shorter, which means much less time to do the list of fall chores every homeowner has to make sure are checked off the list to ensure your home is ready for fall time.
When the City of Trees drops all of her leaves it can be a big job to stay on top of. Seemingly there are just about as many leaf managing products as there are leaves. Thankfully Bob Villa is here to help sort through it. He gives a great review of leaf managing tools for your lawn here. Managing leaves on the ground is one thing, managing them in the gutter is a whole other job. Do not forget to ensure that your gutters are getting just as cleared and cleaned as your yard is. Fall brings lots of mixed weather in the Treasure Valley and a clogged gutter can quickly turn into a huge and potentially expensive mess.
Our patios and decks should bring us year-round opportunities to enjoy our outdoors and entertain friends and family. With everything from outdoor propane heaters to fire pits, there are many products that help us enjoy our outdoor spaces no matter what the weather. To protect the long life of costly yard furniture we recommend you get covers for your patio furniture as well as BBQs and outdoor cookers. Most brands offer a cover engineered to protect their specific products from the inclement weather of our region. However, you can also invest in heavy-duty tarps and bungee cords and create your own protection solution for your outdoor furniture. Even though outdoor furniture is rated for all weather, it should still be protected during consistent rain and snow.
Whether you have a patio or a deck, now is the ideal time to give these areas a deep clean and additional sealing to have your surfaces fully protected and readied for the months of strong weather ahead. The team at This Old House has some great recommendations to keep your deck ready for any season.
There is so much to do and enjoy about the fall season here in the Treasure Valley. It is hard to balance all of the great opportunities to enjoy the season and explore the region with the responsibilities of preparing your home and yard to withstand the months ahead. Make a list of the things that need to get done and plan ahead so that you have time scheduled for fun and work in the coming weeks.
A great way to take one chore off of your list is to call the team at Blind Appeal and get a quote for new window treatments that are custom made to withstand many seasons to come. These expertly installed treatments will bring beauty into your home year a round.
